My love for learning became a part of me in second grade when the teacher encouraged me to think deeper about my ideas. I continued to dive deeper while studying creative writing in high school, English for my BA at Washington College, and Curriculum and Instruction for my MS from McDaniel College. I have enjoyed encouraging my students to learn and grow throughout 22 years of teaching in both public and private schools. I learn so much from teaching them and absolutely love being a part of their self-discovery learning journey. God has made each of them with strengths and weaknesses, preferences, learning styles, and purposes - and it is exciting to help them learn to navigate life in their God-given way. I am certified for English Language Arts and Special Education. I hope to spur the same love of learning in my students here at Learning With Grace.

I am happy to have the opportunity to teach at Learning with Grace Homeschool tutorial program. I have a B.A. degree in Spanish from Pennsylvania State University. While teaching adults in a GED program many years ago I became fascinated with how people learn and why the school system had failed all of the students whom I was teaching. This lead me to pursue an M.A. in Educational Psychology from Atlanta University. During my many years as a Navy wife, I taught in alternative learning programs in Connecticut, North Carolina and Florida. In Florida as a homeschooling parent I taught Spanish in a church homeschool program similar to LWG. I also taught at Pace Private School which is a school for children with learning challenges similar to The Lab School in Washington DC. At Pace I taught Art to elementary and middle school classes and all seventh grade subjects. There I focused strongly on the individual needs of each student while working with small classes. I found the students needed organizational skills in addition to their academics and tools for determining their own learning styles to help them in the future. At times their assignment was to teach what they had learned to a family member at home and to present those lessons to our class. Through those many years I was also a professional doll artist. I designed and marketed my own porcelain doll. As a portrait doll artist I sculpted, painted, designed and sewed the clothing and designed my own wigs. I am also a portrait artist using oils and charcoals as my preferred mediums.

Gretchen is a homeschool mom of five exceptional children, most of which have at least one learning difference including ADHD, Autism, High Intelligence, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, and Dyscalulia. She holds a BS in Elementary Education from Towson University, and has taught in both PG and Anne Arundel counties. She has worked as a classroom teacher, and a mentor teacher for new teachers, but her favorite position was working as a Math Resource Teacher. This provided her the opportunity to help children who struggled in Math classes, like she had as a kid, so they could learn the material while also building their confidence. Gretchen's teaching style stems from her two favorite quotes; "All good things are wild and free," and "If I can't learn how you teach, then teach how I learn." She joined LWG in the fall of 2023 while looking for the best homeschool placement for two of her children that have Dyslexia. She began teaching there for only a few classes and is now a full convert!

Hello! I’m Raven Bethancourt, but you can just call me Mrs. Raven. I am so excited for the opportunity to teach about God’s magnificent creation! I’ve always liked the squiggly snakes and the creepy crawlies, (And I hope I can help you respect them too). God has allowed me to experience His world in so many ways, from scuba diving to climbing the Mayan pyramids, and I can’t wait to share those experiences with you. I love music and art, so get ready for plenty of hands-on learning. We’re going to make science fun, and not so scary. I have a bachelor’s degree in Biology, along with a background in environmental education, exotic animal care, small exhibit design and performing arts. Let’s see how much of God’s creation we can put our hands on- safely of course!

Alejandra is a native Peruvian and mother of two, a girl and a boy. She graduated from St. Augustine University in Peru with a degree in Business Administration. Upon her arrival in the U.S. in 2007 she worked in Early Childhood Development, attaining multiple certifications while working with pre-school and young school age children. She understands what people go through when learning a new language, having arrived in the U.S. with little fluency in English. Alejandra and her husband Reid have homeschooled their two children their entire lives, which revealed to her a love for her language and culture she had previously taken for granted. Her work as a professional educator and experience as a home educator has further stoked a passion for education and the inherent experimentation needed to discover the best possible approach for each unique and individual child. She has also tutored privately as an au pair before starting her own business as a Spanish tutor, as well as leading classes at the co-ops her children have attended.
We are looking for Tutors with big hearts. Extra patience and willing to think outside the box to make a concept clear to a student. Tutors must agree with statement of faith and a creation view of science. Fill out our contact form for more information.
