We do not provide testing or diagnoses at this time. The educational therapist that will be working with us does offer the Woodcock-Johnson testing at a separate fee. We are not requiring specific testing to be done before enrolling, however, we highly recommend making sure the student's struggles are clearly understood and discussed so that our tutors can work with the parents to make the best learning plan for the student.
As the parent, you are the primary teacher. Our tutors are here to assist you in this journey. It is the parent's job to make sure students get the assignments from the tutor completed on the remaining three days of the week. Parents have the ultimate say so in their child's education. We are here to partner with you in this beautiful journey.
Our model is to teach to learn not merely for grades, however grades are optional and vary from class to class and tutors. Please speak to your tutor about it when enrolling for each class,
Before registering consider the following:
Our special classes are going to be geared toward the student with learning differences such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, executive function issues, working memory, auditory and visual processing issues. The student with social anxiety could also benefit from a smaller classroom . The goal is to not just teach the student, but to teach the student how to learn and adapt so that they can later go to any tutorial or private school; however we do offer classes for ALL STUDENTS whether you have challenges or not.
Parents are expected to volunteer for an equal number of days during the year to help with check-in/check-out, monitoring the halls/phone/doors, and other various school-time tasks. The volunteer hours are broken up into 3 hour shifts and parents are able to sign up ahead of time for the dates and times that work best for their schedule. The number of days are determined by the amount of families enrolled. On average the number of days is 4-6 days per family per year.
We also have various volunteer committees that will have openings throughout the year as well for those who want to serve beyond the parent requirements.
We want to keep the atmosphere focused on learning rather than clothing. We have a simple dress code of Learning with Grace shirt, Learning With Grace t-shirt or polo with navy, khaki, or black pants for the boys. Pants or skirts (must be to the knee) for girls in the same colors as above. Our goal is to be neat and modest, as outlined in the handbook. If there are any additional questions, our handbook is the best resource.
While our core classes are closed for enrollment, we will consider families for enrollment in our Unit Studies, Spanish Immersion, and Social Think and Play classes on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays. Please email us at lwgadmissions@gmail.com if you are interested.
